"I Pledge Allegiance" goes another round

The speech that I first gave in 2001 entitled "I Pledge Allegiance", which caused quite a stir by being sent all over the world on email, is doing the rounds again.  Several people have sent me a very old version that has been changed as it has gone from hand to hand, so I thought it best to point people to the correct version of the speech.  Click here to read it...

Guy Lundy appointed CEO of Accelerate Cape Town

Guy Lundy has recently been appointed the CEO of a new organisation formed by leaders of key businesses in the Cape.  Accelerate Cape Town (ACT) aims to mobilise strong, independent business leadership to develop and implement a bold and innovative 20-year vision and growth path for the Cape region.

Complacency and lack of cohesive thinking are causing Cape Town to be left behind in the race for prominence amongst global cities.  As a result, several key businesses have already moved their headquarters elsewhere, and it is increasingly difficult to attract and retain top talent in the region.

Accelerate Cape Town provides the business community with the necessary voice and dedicated resources to develop and drive the growth of a sustainable and successful world city.  A city with the skills, infrastructure and environment necessary to compete internationally for business and talent.  The organisation plans to achieve its aims through developing thought leadership in the area of city development, putting key stakeholders in front of one another, using its thought leadership to influence business and government, and facilitating the development of public private partnerships to implement projects that will deliver on the 20-year vision.

ACT was launched to Cape business leaders at a cocktail party, held at the offices of KPMG, on the 27th of March, following a full-day workshop facilitated by Clem Sunter that developed some powerful scenarios for the future of the Cape.  To read the scenarios, visit the articles page on this website.

Management Today

" South Africa has done very well economically over the past few years, but we need to pick up the pace.  Tactical plans like Asgi-SA, while being commendable and undoubtedly good for growth, are not enough to get the whole country behind long term, sustainable improvement.  What we need is a grand vision for the nation's longer term future and we need the president to get all of us behind working towards making it a reality. "

The South African Magazine

" We do have challenges in South Africa, but all of them must be taken in the context of what we have achieved over the past ten years.  The work done so far has set us up for the potential of an even more positive future, and those who are prepared to be part of building that future will reap the rewards. "

ANC Today Online Publication

" In our Letter in ANC TODAY Vol 4 No 2 last year we commented on two inspiring books edited by two of our fellow South Africans, Brett Bowes and Steuart Pennington, entitled "South Africa: The Good News" (TGN), and "South Africa: More Good News"... "
